EIASM, BELGIUM, APRIL 16-17, 2012
CHAIRPERSONS

Dr David COLLINGS – National University of Ireland, Galway
Professor Hugh SCULLION – National University of Ireland, Galway
Professor Vlad VAIMAN - Reykjavik University, Iceland

OBJECTIVES

To create a forum for academic exchange of empirical qualitative or quantitative research in the area of talent management. Research at all stages (dissertation proposals, research in progress, and completed research) is welcomed.

BACKGROUND

This will be the inaugural workshop on talent management. The workshop is intended to provide a forum for academic debate on the field of talent management. Talent management has gained a central position in managerial practice and is some which occupies a significant amount of managerial time and resources. However, the academic community has been somewhat slower to embrace the idea of talent management and academic study of the topic lags behind practice.

This workshop is designed to bring together leading scholars working in the area of talent management with the intention of developing the academic grounding and standing of the file of study.

The hope is to bring together scholars from a number of traditions including psychology, management, sociology, strategy and other cognate fields which can contribute to this emerging area of study.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We invite papers that explore talent management issues from both theoretical and practical perspectives. We would particularly like to stimulate cross-disciplinary debate and hence welcome papers from a broad range of disciplinary traditions. Obvious examples include psychology, management, strategy and sociology but equally interesting insights may emerge from fields such as economic geography, history and the like. We welcome empirical papers from both qualitative and quantitative traditions and additionally from a range of geographic regions.

Topics of interest include the following :

- Defining talent management
- Global talent management
- Developing technical talent
- Defining and developing talent
- The nature and operation of talent pools
- Talent management and the global economic crisis
- Talent management and career development
- Talent management and ethics
