BACKGROUND

The European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) and the European Finance Association (EFA) will jointly organise a Doctoral Tutorial for PhD students as part of the 37th EFA Annual Meeting, with the sponsorship of the NASDAQ-OMX Educational Foundation. The Doctoral Tutorial will take place on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Frankfurt, Germany. The EFA / EIASM Doctoral Tutorial 2010 will be co-chaired by Loriana Pelizzon (University Ca’ Foscari of Venice), Bruno Gérard (BI, Oslo) and Frans de Roon (Tilburg University).

Outstanding PhD students will have the opportunity to discuss their dissertation research with other doctoral students and leading academics in the field of finance.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We encourage PhD students to submit well-defined and detailed research proposals or preliminary drafts of one of their PhD essays that can already be submitted in a paper-format. Submitters are welcome to add one or two additional page(s) raising the conceptual and methodological problems they face with the current status of their dissertations, which they would like to discuss during the tutorial. All topics and methodological approaches within the broad field of finance will be considered. Preference will be shown for single-authored work that is substantially advanced but not fully completed, as well as for work by students who are planning to participate in  the job-market in 2010-11. (Papers that are co-authored with a faculty member will not be considered for presentation.)

Notifications of decisions will be delivered to authors by June 15, 2010.

Submission Guidelines

Only electronic submissions in PDF format will be considered. To create universally portable PDF files, please use the Fastlane protocol. Details can be found at https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/documents/pdf_create/pdfcreate_05.jsp?page=0

The submission should include the full content of the research document without any identifying details such as author names, affiliation or acknowledgements. Submitters provide name, affiliation, co-authors, paper abstract as well as CV on  the submission application form. Submissions will undergo a blind evaluation by the Doctoral Tutorial faculty.

Students are encouraged to submit their work to both the main conference and the tutorial. However, if a paper is accepted to both the main conference and the tutorial, preference will be given to the main conference and a substitute paper will be selected for the tutorial.  Please indicate  clearly on the Doctoral Tutorial submission form whether you submit your work to the main conference as well so that your eligibility can be confirmed.

Please note that the paper submission deadline for 2010 has passed.

PARTICIPANTS

The Doctoral Tutorial is held in a collaborative, open and friendly atmosphere. The selected papers will be distributed well in advance to facilitate lively discussions and questions from student and faculty participants alike. To enhance the collegiality of the tutorial, participants are kindly asked to attend the entire event. In addition, a student whose paper is accepted for the Doctoral Tutorial is also expected to serve as a discussant for one of the other papers. All participants will receive a certificate of participation. There will be a group supper organised for participants of the EFA / EIASM Doctoral Tutorial the evening before the event (i.e., Tuesday,  August 24, 2010) – details to follow closer to the date.
