CALL FOR PAPERS

After 2002 in Växjö (Sweden), 2004 in Edinburgh (UK), 2005 in Vienna (Austria), 2006 in Toulouse (France) and 2007 in Istanbul (Turkey) the EIASM “Workshop on International Strategy and Cross Cultural Management” is in its sixth edition now.

The workshop invites both conceptual and empirical contributions in either International Strategy or Cross-Cultural Management. We are particularly interested in papers that may help us to enhance the dialogue between these two related, yet somehow distinct domains.

The workshop is organized around a call for papers, coupled with keynote addresses by invited speakers and the authors of the best papers (one best overall paper and one best paper written by a junior scholar).

Contributions are invited for the following four tracks:

Internationalisation Strategies of Companies
(e.g., Global Strategy, International Market Entry, Cross-Border Mergers & Acquisitions, Knowledge Management, Strategic Alliances, Greenfields)
Track chair: Professor Chris Carr (ccarr@staffmail.ed.ac.uk)

Management Practices of the Multinational Company
(e.g., Investment Strategy and Finance, Corporate Governance, HRM, Marketing, Accounting, Organisation, Research & Development and Innovation Management, Production)
Track chair: Professor Africa Ariño (afarino@iese.edu)

Convergence and Divergence in Management Practices
(essentially in the same areas as mentioned for the second track)
Track chair: Dr Markus Pudelko (Markus.Pudelko@ed.ac.uk)

Managing People across Cultures
(e.g., International Staffing and Global Careers, Leadership, Motivation, Trust Dynamics, Interpersonal Relationships, Cultural Competencies)
Track chair: Dr Sebastian Reiche (sreiche@iese.edu)

JOURNAL SPECIAL EDITION FROM WORKSHOP PAPERS

We will publish a special edition of the International Journal of Cross Cultural Management (IJCCM) based on the best and most suitable papers presented at our workshop. This great opportunity should be a clear incentive to submit papers of outstanding quality.

For more information on the journal please see: http://ccm.sagepub.com/

Therefore, we suggest that all authors, who wish their workshop submission to be considered for publication in IJCCM, closely follow the formatting guidelines of IJCCM in their own interest (see the “Manuscript Submission” link on the journal’s website).

SOME TOURIST INFORMATION

For those of you intending to stay a few days longer, it is interesting to note that the day after the workshop is a public holiday in Barcelona.

The festival, La Fiesta de La Mercè, is one of the most popular and well attended festivals throughout the year and is held in honour of Barcelona’s Patron Saint and Protector, La Virgin de La Mercè. Although the main event is held on September 24th each year the event encompasses a wide range of activities over the few days leading up to September 24th. On offer are large sporting events and sailing regattas along with several religious celebrations, parades, firework displays and lots and lots of dancing. Probably the most intriguing event to watch is the human tower building competition (see picture). This involves teams of people wearing traditional costumes trying to build the tallest human tower. You can find this spectacle in Plaça St Jaume. Don’t be surprised to find the towers reaching up to eight levels! As with all Spanish Festivals, music and dancing play an important part of the proceedings and different squares throughout Barcelona play host to different music and dance groups.
