CALL FOR PAPERS

Papers are encouraged on all aspects of the study of accounting regulation and standardization, including developments in theory, empirical studies and policy-oriented analyses. Papers that address issues of compliance, audit oversight and enforcement will be welcomed, together with other relevant topics such as accounting in regulated industries, the effects of regulation and deregulation on financial disclosure behaviour, the implications for corporate governance, and the consequences of accounting regulation for markets and institutions.

Papers are also sought on the structures and processes  of law making, and standard setting and corporate governance in different social and political settings, either national or  international, and on the more widespreaded adoption of IFRS from 2005. 

The programme of the 4th International Workshop on Accounting & Regulation will include a special Abacus Forum session with invited speakers Professor Joshua Ronen of the Stern Business School, New York University, and Professor Geoffrey Whittington of the University of Cambridge and the UK’s Accounting Standards Board, and until recently a member of the International Accounting Standards Board.

Workshop papers regarding the implications of accounting regulation for corporate governance, and the consequences for markets and institutions, may be considered for publication in a special issue of the Journal of Management and Governance following the Workshop. 

Those who are interested in presenting a paper at the workshop should submit an abstract but  priority will be given to completed papers (max. 500 KB)

TIME AND LOCATION

The workshop will be held at the Università di Siena - Graduate College of Santa Chiara (Via Valdimontone, 1). 
This former monastic building is located in the centre of Siena. From the central piazza, Il Campo, walk down Via del Porrione to Piazza Manzoni.

Registration begins at 14.00 on Thursday September 20th, 2007, and the welcome at 14.40.

The Workshop is scheduled to end at 13.00 on Saturday September 22nd.

The workshop dinner shall be held at "Sala delle Lupe", Municipality building at Piazza del Campo 1, thanks to the Municipality of Siena.

If you wish to bring a partner to the dinner, to be held at "Sala delle Lupe", Municipality building at Piazza del Campo 1,
there is an extra fee of €70 (payable on registration).
If you wish to bring a partner to the dinner AND the reception on Thursday, there is an extra fee of €80 (also payable at registration).
You can pay online or in cash at the conference, but you must communicate the extra person ONE WEEK in advance!!

On Thursday September 20, 2007 the Worskhop participants are free to enjoy the Sienese atmosphere.
In the old centre of the town there is a large variety of good restaurants.

PRACTICALITIES

HOW TO REACH SIENA :

For participants arriving by plane, there are regular trains to Siena from Rome, Florence and Pisa.
As there is a rail terminus at Pisa airport, this is slightly more convenient than Florence, and there are direct flights from several European cities to Pisa by Alitalia and other national airlines.

By plane

To Pisa, Florence or Rome: and then by train, bus or car.

By train

From Florence: transfer to the railway station in Florence, where there are trains to Siena every hour until 9 pm. (journey time: 1:45 hours).

From Pisa: from the airport station, changing in Empoli (about 2 hours).

From Rome: from the airport station changing at Rome Central, and Chiusi (about 3 hours).

By bus

From Florence: direct bus from «Sita» bus station (opposite «Santa Maria Novella» railway station) every hour until 7 pm.

By car

From North: superstrada Florence – Siena, exit Siena Nord.
From South: autostrata A1, exit Bettolle for Siena.

**Please note that private cars are not allowed in the city centre.**
