The European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) and the European Finance Association (EFA) will jointly organise, as it is now customary, a Tutorial for PhD students as part of the 32nd EFA Annual Meeting. It will take place on August 24 (Wednesday), 2005 starting at 9.30 a.m.
The EFA Doctoral Tutorial 2005 will be chaired by Bruno GĂ©rard (Norwegian School of Management - BI & Tilburg University) and Frans de Roon (Tilburg University).
Outstanding PhD students will have the opportunity to discuss their dissertation research with other doctoral students and leading academics in the field of finance.
We are pleased to announce that Inquire UK and Inquire Europe are sponsoring a prize for best tutorial paper and that participation to the Tutorial will be free for students attending the 32nd EFA Annual Meeting.
The selected papers will be distributed to all participants to allow everyone to prepare the discussions. The tutorial is held in a collaborative, open and friendly atmosphere, and lively discussions and questioning from student and faculty participants is encouraged. To further this aim, each accepted paper will be discussed by at least one tutorial faculty. To encourage the collegiality of the tutorial, participants are asked to attend the entire tutorial. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
Arrival in Moscow You will find some assistance at the airport, people from the conference will be present to help you with all practical questions on hotels, different locations, etc.
Location The Tutorial will take place at the conference venue, i.e. State University - Higher School of Economics, Myasnitskaya 20, Moscow, room 309.
Technical requirements The room is equipped with a overhead projector as well as with a laptop/beamer. Since own laptops are not allowed, we need to pre-install your presentation files. Therefore you are requested to send your files in advance before leaving off to Moscow, but not later than one day before your presentation is scheduled. The presentation file can be in Powerpoint (all versions) or Acrobat (all versions). To be on the safe side, you may bring a copy of your file on floppy disk, on CD, or on a USB stick.
Tutorial dinner A dinner will be organized on Tuesday evening, August 23 for all participants of the Tutorial (Faculty + students) + some other conference participants. The dinner will take place at 20:00hrs in the Restaurant 'Yolki Palki', a popular Russian restaurant within walking distance from the hotels and conference location (number 8 on the map available here).

We encourage PhD students to submit well-defined and detailed research proposals or preliminary drafts for one of their PhD essays that can already be submitted in a paper-format. They are welcome to add an additional page raising the conceptual and methodological problems they face with the current status of their dissertations, which they would like to discuss during the tutorial. Preference will be shown for single authored work that is substantially advanced but not fully completed. All topics and methodological approaches within the broad field of finance will be considered.
Deadline for submission of papers is March 1, 2005.

Submission guidelines

The submission should include the full content of your research document without any identifying details as author names, affiliation or acknowledgements. You will be asked to provide your name, affiliation, co-authors, paper abstract as well as your CV in the submission application form. The submissions will be evaluated blindly by the tutorial faculty.
Although students can submit to both the main conference and the tutorial, papers accepted for the main conference will be automatically disqualified for inclusion in the tutorial. In case you also submitted your paper to the EFA 32nd Annual Meeting, please indicate below the title of your paper in the submission form : "also submitted to the EFA Conference".
