Special Theme: Supporting writing, feedback and the use of AI, quality and accreditation of doctoral programs. Supervision is at the heart of doctoral education and key to quality and timely completion. The work of program directors, doctoral supervisors, PhD/DBA in Management in business schools is as challenging as ever in a fragmented global landscape: In the face of technological changes (e.g. use of AI), sustainability challenges, changing demographics and regionalization, Program Directors need to re-evaluate their codes of practice, assess quality for accreditation purposes and support quality supervision.
Supervisors adapt to new tools (e.g. the use of AI), socialize candidates into co-authorship, evolving editorial processes, collaborate with other supervisors across disciplinary boundaries, meet the growing demands of the labor market, and adapt to the evolution of society (e.g., sustainability transitions, demographics, regionalization).
The 13th edition of the winter EDAMBA-EIASM consortium provides a community of practice specifically dedicated PhD/DBA program directors and supervisors in business schools and related departments in universities.
During the consortium, supervisors and program director learn by evaluating where they stand in relation to their peers regarding burning issues in doctoral supervisions and quality enhancement building on the EDAMBA – EIASM Code of practice and EQUIS Doctoral standards and Guidelines. Discussions are structured around evidence-based knowledge and frameworks on supervisory processes and quality standards.
New program directors learn about established frameworks for quality enhancement at a European, national, and international level. Program directors also reflect on their experiences and learn about supervisory practices in other institutions and the transformation of doctoral education, especially with the rise of AI and related emerging technologies.
Experienced faculty reflect on numerous successful completions as well as problem cases, and how they deal with the challenges of professionalization for both PhD and DBA candidates. Junior faculty participating in the consortium interact in a safe environment and learn from experienced faculty about different perspectives on supervision beyond their specific experiences with their former supervisors across different schools.
The consortium will be held at the ESADE business school, Barcelona, Building 3 campus from the 8th to the 10th of January 2025.
