Over the last six decades, tourism has experienced continued expansion and diversification, becoming one of the largest and fastest-growing economic sectors in the world (United Nations World Tourism Organization, 2018). More specifically, in spite of sporadic shocks, international tourist arrivals have recorded a virtually uninterrupted increase: from 277 million in 1980 to 1.3 billion in 2017. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in its long-term outlook of future tourism trends (Tourism Towards 2030) estimates that international arrivals worldwide are expected to reach nearly 1.8 billion by the year 2030. A number of major factors can explain this dramatic increase in demand for tourism: (1) the process of globalization; (2) the development of mass transportation and motorization (and the parallel decrease in cost of transportation due to improvements in technology); (3) the rhythm of increase of world GDP as well as the increase of income to be allocated to travels; (4) the introduction of new ICT applications in the work of public and private stakeholders in the tourism sector; (5) the general improvement of security and rights for tourists. Every and each of the abovementioned factors is significantly contributing to shaping a different institutional landscape and economic environment for a number of economic players such as Convention Bureaus, Professional Conference Organizers, Destination Management Companies, Airlines, Hotels, Conference Venues, Congress Centers, Convention Centers, Exhibition Centers. Moreover, companies in the tourism sector are confronted with increasing managerial challenges and have to deal with a turbulent and fast changing environment.
For the Ninth International Conference on Tourism Management and Related Issues to be held in September 2019 in Venice we invite contributions that focus especially, but not exclusively, on tourism, travel, leisure and hospitality management, with an emphasis on:
The topics reported above are indicative and informative rather than exclusive. Other interesting work on tourism management and related issues that is not closely related to the themes above will be taken into consideration. We invite full papers, doctoral research papers, poster papers, abstracts, and research proposals on any of the aforementioned topics without any specific constraints in terms of theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches. To advance investigation on tourism management and to further expand its theoretical and practical bases and boundaries, we need to explore, apply and confront both conceptual and empirical wisdom and scholarship stemming from different perspectives. Therefore, both business practitioners and academics are invited to submit their contributions. In case of acceptance, full papers will be requested by August 30 (all useful details will be included in the acceptance letter). All accepted papers must be presented by at least one of the authors.

Mariani) and two forthcoming books by Palgrave-New York, titled respectively “Tourism Management, Marketing and Development: the Importance of Networks and ICTs” (Eds. Marcello M. Mariani, Rodolfo Baggio, Dimitrios Buhalis and Christian Longhi) and "Tourism Management, Marketing, and Development: Performance, Strategies, and Sustainability” (Eds. Marcello M. HOW TO REACH Venice two entry points From Venice Marco Polo airport Two buses go from the Venice Marco Polo airport to Venice: the No. 5 ACTV bus or the direct ATVO bus; both buses go to Piazzale Roma (road traffic hub of the city). You can also travel via sea from this airport by using the Alilaguna service. If you arrive at the Treviso Canova airport you can take an ATVO bus or the No. 6 ACTT bus going to the Treviso railway station where you can take a train going to the Santa Lucia railway station in Venice.
HOW TO REACH Ca’ Foscari once you are in Piazzale Roma or Venice Santa Lucia Train Station): The main offices of the university’s central administration are located at Palazzo Ca’ Foscari (Dorsoduro 3246 – 30123 Venezia). FROM PIAZZALE ROMA OR FROM “VENEZIA SANTA LUCIA” TRAIN STATION Ca’ Foscari can be reached on foot in approximately 15 minutes from both “Piazzale Roma” (bus station and car parking terminal) and “Venezia Santa Lucia” train station. By vaporetto (i.e. public boat service), either from the train station or the “Piazzale Roma” stop, take Line 1 or Line 2 and get off at “San Tomà”, which is the closest stop to Ca’ Foscari Palace. Vaporetto schedules and routes can be found on the ACTV website – the Public Transportation Authority of Venice. For an interactive map of Venice with routes for getting to Ca’ Foscari from “Piazzale Roma” or from “Venice Santa Lucia” train station, please visit https://apps.unive.it/mappe DISABLED ACCESSIBLE ROUTE TO CA’ FOSCARI To arrive at Ca’ Foscari without encountering architectural barriers, take the Line 2 vaporetto or the Line 61 motor-boat (which can accommodate one wheelchair at a time) from the “Ferrovia” stop, the “Piazzale Roma” stop or the “Tronchetto” stop, and get off at the “San Basilio” stop. From there, take Calle del Vento, cross Campo San Basilio (sign says “San Basegio”) and continue to Fondamenta San Basilio, which turns into Fondamenta San Sebastiano. At the end of Fondamenta San Sebastiano, turn right, taking Fondamenta del Soccorso. Continue straight to Campo dei Carmini (keeping the Church of the same name on your right). Cross Campo dei Carmini and take Calle de la Scuola to Campo Santa Margherita. Once in Campo Santa Margherita, continue straight on, keeping the open area and the building located in the centre on your left. Head toward Rio Tera’ Canal, which is located in front of you and enter Calle de Mezo de la Vida (on the left side of Rio Tera’ Canal). At the end, turn left into Calle de la Vida and then immediately turn right into Calle de la Madonna (passing under the portico of the same name). Follow this calle to Campiello dei Squellini, from there turn left into Calle Foscari. The entrance to Ca’ Foscari is at the end of Calle Foscari just before Calle Foscari bridge.
