BACKGROUND
Welcome to the eighth conference on performance measurement and management control. This bi-annual conference has become the event at the forefront of knowledge in these areas. In 2013 close to 260 scholars presented and discussed more than 100 papers. As in other editions, some of the most relevant papers of the 2013 were published in a book by Emerald Publishing. We expect to have a similar volume from the 2015 conference.
We will meet again in 2015 to continue to explore and exchange on current research, current corporate practice and future trends in research and practice of performance measurement and management control.
The two plenary speakers will review existing research and present their most recent work on management control and performance measurement, particularly related to the 2015 theme: Performance Measurement and Management Control—Contemporary Issues.
CALL FOR PAPERS
As in previous conferences, we invite papers using a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches on any topic related to the broad theme of performance measurement and management control. We are also encouraging submissions from all geographies of the world.
We also encourage submissions from a variety of people with the objective of having a conference where different points of view meet and create an environment for learning, innovation, and new projects. Therefore, we encourage submissions from researchers and practitioners at all levels from PhD students to leading scholars and managers that provide guidance and experience. We also encourage submissions from all regions in the world because there are interesting developments in all of them.
The topic of this edition is contemporary issues in performance measurement and management control. This is a broad topic by design with the intent of encouraging research and related discussions on important issues relevant today. For example, papers could explore the following:
Performance measurement and management control in emerging markets
The use of social and or informal controls
Linkages between creativity, innovation, and control
Innovative control practices in healthcare
Behavioral effects of alternative incentive schemes
Performance evaluation for different organizational designs
Performance measurement in high-performing firms
We are very excited to announce that this year we will accept two types of submissions. In order to provide support to scholars who have little experience writing for and publishing in international journals, we are asking that you self-select into one of two types of presentations.
The first type (Type 1) is intended for scholars who are (relatively) new at publishing in international English-language journals. Papers selected for these sessions will have a shorter presentation time to allow for more feedback. These parallel sessions will have a discussant with experience in publishing. Our purpose is to help the community of emerging international scholars better prepare papers for international journals.
The second type (Type 2) is intended for those with more experience in publishing in international journals. Consistent with past conferences, authors will have more time to present their paper with the purpose of stimulating audience participation.
For this conference we will also be soliciting volunteers to be session chairpersons and discussants for the Type 1 papers. You do not need to submit a paper to volunteer! (check this in the registration form)
The conference policy implies that an author can submit and present only one paper as a first author. However this author can be a non-presenting co-author of other submitted papers.
