FACULTY

Wolfgang Mayrhofer (AT) is professor of business administration, holds a chair for management and organisational behaviour at WU Vienna, Austria, and is Program Director of Doctoral studies at WU. Previously, he held teaching and research positions at the University of Paderborn and the Dresden University of Technology, both in Germany. His research interests focus on international comparative research in human resource management and leadership, careers and systems theory. He has co-edited, co-authored and authored 26 books and more than 160 book chapters and peer reviewed articles. Wolfgang Mayrhofer has taught in various international programs and is a research fellow at the Centre for Global Workforce Strategy, Simon Fraser University, Canada, member of the academic advisory board of AHRMIO, associate member of the Centre for Professional Work and Careers, Loughborough University, and an appointed visiting professor at Henley Management College, UK.

Winfried Ruigrok (NL) is a professor of International Management and currently serves as Dean of the Executive School of Management, Technology & Law at the University of St.Gallen, Switzerland. He previously held positions at the Warwick Business School (UK), Rotterdam School of Management (NL), European Commission (B), University of Amsterdam (NL), and Netherlands International Development Organisation (NL). He teaches courses in international management, corporate governance and research methods. His research focuses on the link between internationalisation and firm performance, international top management teams and boards, corporate governance, diversity management, and the case study method. He has published papers in numerous journals, incl. Strategic Management Journal, Organizational Research Methods, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Corporate Governance: An International Review, and Management International Review.
 

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE

Successful writing and defense of doctoral dissertation, publishing of research findings in top academic journals as well academic career is closely related to the development of research competences which include deep understanding of research, theory building and testing capacities and appropriate writing and publishing skills.

The purpose of this seminar is to disclose the research process, the main criteria of good research paper and
doctoral dissertation, and the most effective ways of writing up and publishing research findings.

During the seminar doctoral students will consider and analyze the following issues:
 

  • Reflect on their goals and rationales for writing a thesis as well as discuss characteristics of good research questions.
  • Explore the fit between research question, theoretical foundation and methodology.
  • Relate their fields of interest and research questions to adequate publishing outlets.
  • Become familiar with key quantitative and qualitative research methods and challenges in management research.
  • Relate research methodologies to their own projects.
  • Consider the publication implications of their methodological choices.

EVALUATION

Upon successful completion of the seminar (full attendance), the participants will be given a certificate and granted 4 ECTS

PRACTICALITIES

TIME AND LOCATION
The seminar will be held at the ISM University of Management and Economics, Vilnius, Lithuania
The programme will start on Tuesday June 25, 2013 at 09.00 and is scheduled to end Friday June 28, 2013 at approx 16.00

PARTICIPATION FEE
The participation fee is 1100 €. This fee includes participation to the seminar, the documents, lunches and 2 group dinners.

EIASM SCHOLARSHIPS
The Institute offers a limited number of scholarships of 600 € per member institution. Scholarships are strictly limited to students coming from an EIASM Institutional Member (the Academic Council). Allocation of the scholarships is entirely at the discretion of the European Institute

Cancellations made before June 7, 2013 will be reimbursed with 10% deduction of the total fee. No reimbursement will be possible after this date.

APPLICATIONS
Interested doctoral students should register online (and add the required documents) no later than April 20, 2013. Besides doctoral students, other researchers may participate. The number of participants will be limited to create a stimulating environment. The selection among the applicants will be conducted by the Institute’s Faculty. They will review the following documents which should necessarily complement each application form:

  • the applicant’s curriculum vitae demonstrating his/her capabilities of doing research ;
  • a letter of recommendation of his/her local faculty supporting the application ;
  • a two-page description of his/her doctoral research, indicating the general objectives.
