PROGRAMME COORDINATOR & FACULTY

Branko Božič
NEOMA Business School, France
   Programme Coordinator & Faculty

Branko Božič is an associate professor of marketing at NEOMA Business School (Paris, Rouen, Reims) in France. He received his PhD from the University of Glasgow (UK). His research focuses on organizational trust, stakeholder trust, crisis communication, and advancements in grounded theory methodology. He learned grounded theory from Kathy Charmaz, and is his research methodology of choice. He is currently researching trust and distrust in secret service organizations, emotions and crisis response strategies, and the transformation of organizational trust into distrust. He has published in Organization Studies, Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Business Research, and European Management Journal.

AIMS OF THE SEMINAR

A grounded theory is a popular methodology for theorizing from data.
Unfortunately, it is frequently misunderstood and not easy to use. This workshop aims to present the definitive guidelines for doing grounded theory and allow participants to practice abductive theorizing from the data. The workshop is accessible and practical and provides valuable tips.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

This seminar helps PhD candidates use grounded theory methodology for designing and conducting their research. In particular, participants will:
Understand the nexus between various philosophical assumptions and grounded theory approach
Understand the logic of grounded theory coding
Learn theoretical sampling and write analytical memos
Integrate theoretical categories
Use the extant literature in their grounded theory project
Perform qualitative research with rigor and transparency
Advance their research project (e.g., they will be able to work on their PhD research material; troubleshooting)

TARGET AUDIENCE

Doctoral students from various social science disciplines, including management, marketing, sociology, and more.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Day 1
The session introduces the grounded theory methodology. It focuses on philosophical considerations concerning all grounded theory research, its implications for grounded theory analysis, and presents the main grounded theory guidelines and main analytical tools. A substantial part of the session is dedicated to the theory and practice of constant comparison and open coding. The session includes practical exercises and some pre-reading (which will be supplied before the workshop). If available (relevant), participants should bring to class their qualitative data (e.g., interview transcripts). If not available, the coding material will be provided during the session.
Day 2
Building on session 1, session 2 continues with analytical tools zooming in on selective and theoretical coding, theoretical sampling, memoing, and theoretical sorting. The session includes practical exercises and some pre-reading. If available (relevant), participants should bring to class their qualitative data (e.g., interview transcripts). If not available, the coding material will be provided during the session.
Day 3
The session deals with the role of extant literature in grounded theory methodology, introduces evaluation criteria relevant to grounded theory research, and provides guidelines and best practices in writing and publishing grounded theory research in leading academic publications. The session includes practical exercises and some pre-reading.

DEADLINES

Application deadline: 23 September 2024 (A few more places available. Apply fast online).
Notification: as of 30 September 2024

EVALUATION & ECTS

APPLICATION PROCESS

APPLICATIONS

A few more places available. Apply fast online.
Interested doctoral students should apply online (and add the required documents, in English) no later than 23 September 2024. Besides doctoral students, other researchers may participate. The number of participants will be limited to create a stimulating environment. The selection among the applicants will be conducted by the seminar’s faculty. They will review the following documents which should necessarily complement each application form:

  • the applicant’s curriculum vitae demonstrating his/her capabilities of doing research ;
  • a letter of recommendation of his/her local faculty supporting the application ;
  • a two-page description of his/her doctoral research, indicating the general objectives.

PROCESS

1 – Apply for the seminar by submitting all necessary documents online by the announced deadline. All documents need to be in English.
2 – EIASM will notify you of the selection results. If you are accepted to participate, the Institute will inform you at this point if you are eligible for a scholarship and will confirm the amount of the scholarship.
3 – EIASM will ask you to confirm your participation and once this confirmation is received, you will be invoiced for your attendance.

REGISTRATION & FEES

PARTICIPATION FEE
The participation fee is 780 € (VAT exempt).
This fee includes participation to the seminar, access to documents.

EIASM SCHOLARSHIPS
EIASM provides 3 scholarships per EIASM Academic Council Member for this seminar (50% off the registration fee). Allocation of the scholarships is entirely at the discretion of the European Institute.

Important: please double check the validity of your university’s membership. It may run until a specific month of a given year and thus only make you eligible for a discount until the end of that month. For the complete list of members click here
